It’s a fact that tastes differ. A lot. Still, there are things that succeed in appealing to all tastes, or at least most tastes. This is no different when it comes to sneakers. While it’s natural to differ about which ten deserve to be 2018’s top ten, there were releases that were much anticipated by sneakerheads whether for pure nostalgia or their really good quality. Therefore, the list below compiles the top ten sneakers of 2018 based on their popularity and sales.
Nike may have predicted the boom this sneaker has made when they named it after element 7, Francium, the most explosive element in the periodic table.
Well, they’re Michael Jordan’s 1995-96 NBA sneakers.
3- SEAN WOTHERSPOON X NIKE AIR MAX 97/1
The winner of the 2017 Air Max Day’s Vote Forward was Sean Wotherspoon, who runs Round Two for vintage items. Inspired by an 80s corduroy Nike hat, Wotherspoon put an Air Max 97 on an Air Max 1 sole, and with the help of his family and friends, designed the Air Max 97/1.
4- AIR JORDAN 3 "BLACK/CEMENT"
Despite having been released several times since the eighties, this didn’t stop Nike from releasing the Air Jordan 3 again in 2018. And, sure enough, the sneaker made it to the top ten of the year.
5- OFF WHITE X AIR JORDAN "WHITE"
An untraditional design that manages to have a classic feel at the same time.
6- UNION X AIR JORDAN 1
The product of combining several of the earlier Air Jordan designs. The result is a retro-style sneaker with a new design that stays true to the original.
7- PUMA THUNDER SPECTRA
The choice of multi colors in Alexander McQueen’s Thunder Spectra on the retro design gives the sneaker a contemporary look while maintaining its vintage spirit.
8- ADIDAS YEEZY 700 "WAVE RUNNER"
The design and irregularity in the colors of the Wave Runner have certainly appealed to many.
9- OFF WHITE X CONVERSE CHUCK TAYLOR
An upper and sole made of rubber. Who wouldn’t want to try that?
10- TRAVIS SCOTT X AIR JORDAN 4
Travis Scott has sure picked a design that would go beyond his fan base.
Moving on to trends, it may still be early in the year, but there are still some indications about which trends may continue into 2019 and find their way among sneakerheads.
Those sneakers with the thick, bulky soles are still going strong among boys and girls.
Though they’re most popular in white, they remain a personal favorite to many in other solid colors and even textures like suede.
Whether for nostalgia or their originality, it seems that classic and vintage sneakers keep coming back in style the more we go into the future.
Thanks to their touch of elegance, suede sneakers aren’t likely to go out of fashion any time soon.
Of course, new trends keep coming out every time one blinks. So, it’s important to know how to pick the trends that fit your lifestyle and, certainly, your personality. Being comfortable in what you’re wearing is as important as being in style.
